What a delight

Holden’s Gallery is a real hinterland treat. Slightly off the beaten Maple Street track, and committed to local artists and the community, it’s got an authenticity about it that makes you want to stay a while.

Located in what was Maleny’s oldest church – an historical blue and white timber building with tall ceilings and petite gothic windows – Holden’s showcases some of the region’s most impressive artists. Susanne Barrett’s oil landscapes contrast with her abstract multimedia, and Tracey Sims’ detailed acrylic and multimedia floral pieces have a mark of their own. Gary Myers’ colourful pieces are a delight.

Amazingly, Holden’s fits so much more than a fine collection of local paintings into its character-laden space. Antique furniture, handcrafted wood items, prints, sculptures, jewellery, books and cards sit comfortably alongside each other and provide something unexpected at every turn for the wandering visitor.

Part gallery, part gift shop, Holden’s also has a well-established picture framing service, and recently opened an on-the-spot photo lab. It’s a ‘something for everyone’ experience, but never feels cheap or cluttered. Those in charge would appear to have not only an eye for colour and arrangement, but also a respect for the space in which they find themselves. Anthea
