Mieke Van Sambeeck

A multi award winning potter who has exhibited in numerous group
exhibitions.
I started with a few hobby classes and workshops where I learnt the
basics of ceramics and then built on that foundation by
experimentation. My horsehair raku pots entail many stages to produce a
finished pot. Starting by throwing on the wheel, through bisque firing,
then firing to 900 degrees when the pots are individually removed and
horsehair applied. This instantly vaporizes on the extremely hot
surface creating a completely individual image on each item. When cool
they are washed, dried and buffed with bees wax. Raku ware is porous
and unsuitable for functional use.
