African Selection
Phil and Jennifer Holden came to Australia from Zimbabwe and so the African Selection is very close to their hearts. At this stage it consists of a delightful range of animal and bird sculptures made entirely from scrap metal. This is a genuine and worthwhile re-cycling enterprise well worth supporting. At the same time independent Zimbabwean artists are able to create employment for their relatives and local townspeople by working through a company in the capital Harare. Right now, given the desperate state of the Zimbabwean economy, these jobs will be a lifeline to many families. The expression and sense of movement given to each sculpture is truly vibrant and speaks volumes of the artist’s skill and creativity.
The sculptures are finished with a varnish and are suitable for indoor or outdoor use. They are supplied with maintenance instructions for outdoor use but the nature of the product in that situation is to achieve a weathered look and they will last for many years with the weathering a part of the visual appearance.
